Prof. Mbarika, President, ICT University Initiative (ICT-U) – Letter to Cameroonians

19 Sep
Dear Cameroonians and Members of the Diaspora,

Victor Wacham A. Mbarika , Ph.D.

President, The ICT University Initiative (ICT-U)

On August 3, 2012, Cameroon’s “The POST” Newspaper published an article announcing the launch of United States-based ICT University in Cameroon. The ICT University has over 5,000 students in its degree and certificate programs. As President of this fairly new institution, it is my honor to invite you to visit the website of the University: www.ictuniversity.org. Take a step further to encourage your relatives in Cameroon to earn their degrees at The ICT University (The American University in Cameroon). Prof. Sammy Beban Chumbow, former Rector/Vice Chancellor, is heading this effort in Cameroon. He is one of Cameroon’s most respected intellectuals, in addition to having completed tenures as DVC of the University of Buea, VC/Rector of the University of Yaoundé I, the University of Dschang and the University of Ngaoundéré, and Vice President of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences.

Attached is the brochure detailing all the ICT University programs and the application form. The ICT University Programs range from Bachelor’s to PhD. The ICT University is recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon. The ICT network of national universities spans several institutions including the University of Yaoundé I, the University of Buea and the Evangelical University in Banjoun.

We will be running a great placement program to position students and recent graduates for jobs, as well as entrepreneurial training to enable them create their own jobs. Members of the diaspora interested in pursuing their Masters or Ph.D. can also apply to certain programs offered online. Although most of the programs are onsite, there are a few full graduate degree programs offered online. You get the advantage of paying much less than you would have to, to study in the developed world. Furthermore, you and all our students receive superior quality education from faculty members trained at the best Universities worldwide. This is the same for our onsite programs where faculty members teach from the US and Europe via Video Conferencing with the Yaoundé campus. The technology we employ allows students to interact with the Professors with questions and comments in real time. Our courses are progressive, flexible and benchmarked against the world’s best.

Visit the website and consider applying or have your family and friends based in Cameroon to apply (www.ictuniversity.org).

I am also attaching an application for partial scholarships for The Cameroon Program only. Some of these scholarships are funded by private foundations supporting The ICT University initiative in Cameroon.

Please provide wide circulation of this information through your social networks, association email lists, village groups, and through any other means possible. Better education will be the source of manpower that will move Cameroon into the ranks of emerging nations. The ICT University – Cameroon is here to help fill that void.

Regards,

Prof. V. Mbarika

UB online revolution

19 Sep

The University of Buea, has embarked on an “Online Revolution”, whereby most if not all administrative work is done without physical interactions. This started in 2010 with the introduction of online registration for courses.

Difficulties faced during the last two years, raised doubts as to whether or not the process will carrying on in the coming years.      With the coming of new Vice-Chancellor, everything is done in electronic format. E-Registration, E-admissions, E-fees payment, etc

The University of Buea Congregation held 18 May, 2012, where it was revealed that a new mode of paying fees has being introduced. Instead of hundreds of students queuing up at the arts loby to pay fees daily, MTN mobile money is to take over this process.  MTN will install four stands on campus, where students will be guided on how to go about the process.
